  1. Radio astronomy is the study of radio 
  2. waves emitted naturally by objects in space, 
  3. by means of a radio telescope. Radio emission 
  4. comes from hot gases (thermal radiation). 
  5. Radio astronomy began in 1932 when US 
  6. astronomer Karl Jansky detected radio waves 
  7. from the centre of our Galaxy, but the 
  8. subject did not develop until after World War 
  9. II. Radio astronomy has greatly improved our 
  10. understanding of the evolution of stars, the 
  11. structure of galaxies, and the origin of the 
  12. universe.
